Photography Composition

Leading Line

Leading line is when there is an object leading the eye to an object, or it’s something that can create depth.

This is a picture of a railing that is creating depth, showing how far it is going. The railing is really close to the camera lens so that’s where your eye is focusing until you look to left and see how far the door frame is from where the picture was actually taken.

Horizontal

A Horizontal picture is when the picture is wide rather than tall.

This picture was taken horizontally, and you can tell because it’s not just focusing on one flower itself. It’s showing all the surrounding flowers. The picture is also showing a variety of different flowers.

Formal Balance

Formal Balance is when there is a sense of symmetry in the picture

In both sides of this picture, is the same thing. A form of symmetry is going on. The same tables are on both sides. And the isle in the middle of the picture is playing the role of the line of symmetry.

Silhouette

A Silhouette picture is when the light is coming from behind the main focus of the picture.

Here is a picture of Brenden, where the light is coming from behind him. With the light coming from behind, you can’t see the details of his face but you see the shadow of his body.

Distance (close)

The main focus of the picture is going to be very close to the lens.
Mango, being the main focus of the picture is very close to the lens. Making it a close up picture. You cant see much around Mango since the picture is so close.
